is it fair to not go out with someone because they tell you that they really like the movies phenomenon and contact?

really, tell me.

I mean, yes, you want fundamental values to align, but a couple of crappy movies? If that's the biggest obstacle to your future lives together, go for it.

BTW, before we were married, my wife told me that she didn't like movies AT ALL. I was taken aback and thought this was really weird, and then I realized I could go see any movie I wanted to and not have her later say, "You went without me? I thought we were going to go TOGETHER!"
